The Terrors turned in a brilliant second half display scoring six times without reply to make it 31 goals in their last seven league games, it was the first time Tooting had scored eight goals in a league match since August 2004 when Ashford Town(Kent) were hammered 8-3 John Hastings scoring six of them. It also made it seven wins on the spin for the rampant Terrors, the clubs all time record of consecutive league wins is nine in season 1957-58.

United had a couple of early chances with Liam Allen in the visitors goal saving well from Danny Bassett and Taurean Roberts. The opening goal arrived in the 14th minute when Billy Dunn latched onto a through ball and scored with a left foot

drive. In the 27th minute it was 2-0 when Molesey gave the ball away and Billy Dunn went on a familiar solo run to knock in number two. Molesey who had looked dangerous in patches pulled a goal back in the 32nd minute when Adriano Moraes brought down Joe Nwoko in the box and Joe Pratley-Jones converted the spot-kick. In first half-half stoppage time Pratley-Jones made it all square when he powerfully headed home a corner.

Tooting did not hang about after the break and within five minutes had restored their lead when Jordan Wilson fired in a screamer which went in off the post. Thirteen minutes later it was 4-2 with a good strike from Taurean Roberts. With Tooting running riot Billy Dunn completed his hat-trick after being set up by Chace O’Neill midway through the half. Billy Dunn then turned provider crossing for Danny Bassett to smash home a deserved goal after 69 minutes. In the 86th minute substitute Claudiu Hoban unselfishly crossed for Chace O’Neill to slot home and right on time Jordan Wilson completed the scoring after a fine run. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better it did.

In my near sixty years of following the club the attacking play is reminiscent of the great Tooting side of the late 1950’s in the days of Paddy Hasty and co which is a real complement in itself. Well done to the team and management not forgetting the tremendous backing from the fans. It was good to see Nathan Gordon in the Moles ranks having recently returned to the fold after recovering from a serious injury.

Tooting equalled an all-time club record stretching back to the 1957-58 season with their 9th consecutive league victory against a battling Faversham Town side. Jordan Wilson had a early strike saved but it was the visitors who had the better of the half with Matte Pierson making good saves to deny Dean Grant and Sam Bewick. George Monger also sliced wide when well placed.

—–––––––––––––––––—––—––––

After the break the Terrors put on a lot of pressure a quick free-kick fell to Mike Dixon who fired wide. On the hour Quincy Rowe saw a goal-bound header from a corner blocked on the line and a minute later Billy Dunn saw the keeper off his line and tried a speculative long range special which was just off target. Town then broke away and Dean Grant saw his shot flash across the Tooting goal. Will Godman the Town custodian made a good stop from a Peter Wedgeworth drive and an even better save to tip over a Jordan Wilson effort destined for the roof of the net. The all important goal came in the 76th minute sub Danny Bassett who was making some good runs down the right flank was fouled and from a pin-point Peter Wedgeworth free-kick the ball fell to midfield general Chace O’Neill who rifled a low shot into the corner of the net to a tremendous roar. A hard fought game which saw a bit of history made in the process well down to the management team and the players.

Goals in stoppage time in both halves saw Greenwich Borough edge home in this top of the table clash. Mike Dixon and Jordan Wilson had early efforts saved by home goalie Craig Holloway while at the other end Robert Denness saw his curling shot hit the post. Tooting took the lead in the 22nd minute when a Jordan Wilson corner was headed powerfully home by Sol Patterson-Bohner. With the last action of the first half Liam MacDevitt brought the home side level heading in from a corner.

—–––––––––––––––––—––—––––

In the 64th minute Robert Denness was clear on goal but Matte Pierson made a vital last ditch tackle outside of his area. In the 70th minute Quincy Rowe was adjudged to have handled in the area and Robert Denness made no mistake from the spot. Back came the Terrors and ten minutes later Jordan Wilson made a good run down the right and his cross was converted at the far post by Mike Dixon. Both teams then went for the winner and it was Borough who got it Robert Denness netting from a tight angle. On reflection Tooting deserved a draw but it was not to be. However the Terrors run of nine consecutive league

wins going into the game was a great achievement having only been done once before in the clubs history.

Tooting stepped up a gear after the break to ease into the third round of the County Cup. The opening half was pretty even with both sides carving out reasonable openings. After 12 minutes the Robins had a real chance but Ryan Healy miskicked when well placed and five minutes later Matte Pierson was called into action to make a smart save to deny Ronald Sobowale. Back came the Terrors with a well worked move which saw Taurean Roberts just miss the target. Impressive debutant Fabio Nunes had a good chance but fired inches wide. Matte Pierson was called into action again on the half-hour making

another good stop this time from Francis Sey.

—–––––––––––––––––—––—––––

In the second half Tooting took the upper hand Ollie Bennett had an effort cleared off the line, Claudiu Hoban saw a goal ruled out for offside and Taurean Roberts had a long range effort saved. The pressure paid dividends in the 73rd minute when a Mike Dixon cross from a narrow angle took a wicked deflection and then went in off the keeper. The home teams only chance of the

second period came two minutes later when Matte Pierson went full length to keep out a Francis Sey drive. The Terrors got their second goal in the 86th minute when home keeper Jack Minchin made a good save from a powerful Jordan Wilson strike but the ball broke to Fabio Nunes who thumped the ball joyfully home from close range.

Hastings took the points with a fine attacking display against an out of sorts Terrors. Tooting did have the first chance in the 4th minute when some slack defending by the visitors saw the ball fall to the hard working Danny Bassett whose low drive was well saved by the keeper. Three minutes later Matte Pierson made a fine stop from a Barry Cogan header. The Sussex side opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Harry Stannard latched onto a Barry Cogan through ball to score. Six minutes later Hastings went close again when Barry Cogan volleyed just over.

—–––––––––––––––––—––—––––

The visitors killed the game off scoring twice early in the second half man of the match Matt Bodkin made it 2-0 with a scissor kick and the experienced Frannie Collin added a third after Matte Pierson had beaten out a fierce Harry Stannard drive. Tooting then enjoyed their best spell of the game when Chace O’Neill shot inches wide and Hastings keeper Lennie Pidgeley made good saves from Fabio Nunes and Sol Patterson-Bohner. In the 80th minute Adriano Moraes was shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident after he and an opponent had gone to ground following a tackle. After 84 minutes Hastings

completed the scoring when a Frannie Collin free-kick rattled the underside of the Terrors crossbar and the ball rebounded to Matt Bodkin to tap in. Well done to the visitors on a impressive afternoons work, on a day when all the leading clubs dropped points in what is a very open division.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd FC : Matte Pierson, Callum Wilson(Adriano Moraes), Fabio Nunes, Ashley Robinson(Marcel Barrington), Sol Patterson-Bohner, Quincy Rowe, Jordan Wilson, Ollie Bennett(Claudio Hoban) Mike Dixon, Danny Bassett. Unused subs Bashiru Alimi, Tope Fadahunsi.

London Senior Cup - 2nd Round

3-0

Tooting made a good start in their defence of the London Senior Cup with a comfortable 4-0 victory over old rivals Erith & Belvedere at a cold KNK Stadium. United took only four minutes to go in front when a sloppy pass from a Erith defender landed at the feet of Danny Bassett who did the rest. In the 20th minute it was 2-0 with a good strike from Danny Bassett after he had swopped passes with Chace O’Neill. Four minutes later Chace O’Neill had a good chance but blasted over from close range. The visitors only real effort on goal came in the 25th minute when U21’s keeper Liam Sallis claimed confidently a Grant Brown free-kick. Just before the interval Marcel Barrington added a third slotting home from a Taurean Roberts corner.

—–––––––––––––––––—––—––––

After the break Jordan Wilson had a effort saved but only just by the keeper and in the 55th minute Danny Bassett had the chance of an hat-trick when all alone with the visitors appealing in vain for offside but he shot wide. Tooting saved the best goal to last when Taurean Roberts went on a fine solo run and rifled home. Alex Anderson then had a opening for the Kent side but pulled his shot wide and Sam L’anson made a superb save right at the end to deny Danny Bassett a deserved hat-trick. The only negative on the night came twenty minutes from time when Fabio Nunes had to be carried off the pitch with a leg injury.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd FC : Liam Sallis, Ashley Robinson, Fabio Nunes(Callum Wilson), Bashiru Alimi, Sol Patterson-Bohner, Quincy Rowe(Serg Zamara), Jordan Wilson, Chace O’Neill(Ollie Bennett), Danny Bassett, Marcel Barrington, Taurean Roberts. Unused subs Mike Dixon, Jay Jones.
