The Terrors turned in a brilliant second half display scoring six times without reply
to make it 31 goals in their last seven league games, it was the first time Tooting
had scored eight goals in a league match since August 2004 when Ashford Town(Kent)
were hammered 8- United had a couple of early chances with Liam Allen in the visitors goal saving well from Danny Bassett and Taurean Roberts. The opening goal arrived in the 14th minute when Billy Dunn latched onto a through ball and scored with a left foot drive. In the 27th minute it was 2- —–––––––––––––––––—––—–––– Tooting did not hang about after the break and within five minutes had restored their
lead when Jordan Wilson fired in a screamer which went in off the post. Thirteen
minutes later it was 4- In my near sixty years of following the club the attacking play is reminiscent of the great Tooting side of the late 1950’s in the days of Paddy Hasty and co which is a real complement in itself. Well done to the team and management not forgetting the tremendous backing from the fans. It was good to see Nathan Gordon in the Moles ranks having recently returned to the fold after recovering from a serious injury. Goals in stoppage time in both halves saw Greenwich Borough edge home in this top
of the table clash. Mike Dixon and Jordan Wilson had early efforts saved by home
goalie Craig Holloway while at the other end Robert Denness saw his curling shot
hit the post. Tooting took the lead in the 22nd minute when a Jordan Wilson corner
was headed powerfully home by Sol Patterson- —–––––––––––––––––—––—–––– In the 64th minute Robert Denness was clear on goal but Matte Pierson made a vital last ditch tackle outside of his area. In the 70th minute Quincy Rowe was adjudged to have handled in the area and Robert Denness made no mistake from the spot. Back came the Terrors and ten minutes later Jordan Wilson made a good run down the right and his cross was converted at the far post by Mike Dixon. Both teams then went for the winner and it was Borough who got it Robert Denness netting from a tight angle. On reflection Tooting deserved a draw but it was not to be. However the Terrors run of nine consecutive league wins going into the game was a great achievement having only been done once before in the clubs history. Tooting stepped up a gear after the break to ease into the third round of the County
Cup. The opening half was pretty even with both sides carving out reasonable openings.
After 12 minutes the Robins had a real chance but Ryan Healy miskicked when well
placed and five minutes later Matte Pierson was called into action to make a smart
save to deny Ronald Sobowale. Back came the Terrors with a well worked move which
saw Taurean Roberts just miss the target. Impressive debutant Fabio Nunes had a good
chance but fired inches wide. Matte Pierson was called into action again on the half- another good stop this time from Francis Sey. —–––––––––––––––––—––—––––
In the second half Tooting took the upper hand Ollie Bennett had an effort cleared off the line, Claudiu Hoban saw a goal ruled out for offside and Taurean Roberts had a long range effort saved. The pressure paid dividends in the 73rd minute when a Mike Dixon cross from a narrow angle took a wicked deflection and then went in off the keeper. The home teams only chance of the second period came two minutes later when Matte Pierson went full length to keep out a Francis Sey drive. The Terrors got their second goal in the 86th minute when home keeper Jack Minchin made a good save from a powerful Jordan Wilson strike but the ball broke to Fabio Nunes who thumped the ball joyfully home from close range. Hastings took the points with a fine attacking display against an out of sorts Terrors. Tooting did have the first chance in the 4th minute when some slack defending by the visitors saw the ball fall to the hard working Danny Bassett whose low drive was well saved by the keeper. Three minutes later Matte Pierson made a fine stop from a Barry Cogan header. The Sussex side opened the scoring in the 33rd minute when Harry Stannard latched onto a Barry Cogan through ball to score. Six minutes later Hastings went close again when Barry Cogan volleyed just over. —–––––––––––––––––—––—–––– The visitors killed the game off scoring twice early in the second half man of the
