Ryman League Cup

0-3

0-2

Tooting’s interest in the League Cup ended with a 3-0 defeat to Staines Town although the Terrors had the chances to make it a closer game. United went into the game with several changes from the side that won at South Park. The visitors opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a goal from Reece Tison- Lascaris and the same player made it 2-0 midway through the half when his deflected shot beat Kyle Merson. On the half hour mark Jordan Wilson made a good run and his low drive was saved by the keeper and two minutes later Mike Dixon was through on goal but blasted over.

Staines killed the game five minutes after the break when poor defending at a corner saw the ball fall to Devante McKain who lashed the ball home. In the 62nd minute Lee Hall was unlucky when his long range effort cannoned off the crossbar and in stoppage time we hit the woodwork again. So the two cup games played thus far have brought no reward although most supporters would agree we now need to focus on continuing our fine start in the league.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd. : Kyle Merson, Eddie Dines, Norley Botaka(Cameron Karembo), Lee Hall, Antonio Simeone, Quincy Rowe, Jordan Wilson, Ollie Bennett, Matt Price(Leon Lalor-Dell), Mike Dixon(Danny Bassett), Taurean Roberts. Unused subs Ashley Robinson, Matte Pierson.

Tooting consolidated their position at the top of the league table with a hard fought victory over Ramsgate. The Kent side had the first opening after eight minutes when Joe Taylor beat the offside trap but was forced wide and his shot hit the outside of the post. The Terrors took the lead in the 14th minute when a Taurean Roberts corner was headed across goal by Billy Dunn to Bash Alimi who scored from point blank range.

United doubled their lead on the half hour when Jordan Wilson made a good run and his powerful shot was beaten

out by Luke Watkins to the waiting Billy Dunn who scored with a clinical finish. Danny Bassett then had a fierce drive tipped over and just before the interval Ollie Bennett dinked the ball over the keeper but the ball hit the woodwork

-------------------------------------------------------------------

In their first attack of the second half Tooting went 3-0 up after a fine solo effort from Taurean Roberts, Taurean nearly added another three minutes later when he cut in from the left and crashed a fierce drive against the woodwork.

Joe Taylor had a good opportunity for the Rams but headed wide. Right out of the blue Ramsgate defender Jake Mackenzie scored with a cross shot in the 65th minute and five minutes later the visitors pulled another goal back when Jake Munday scored from a precise cross from the outstanding Alfie Paxman.

Nine minutes from time United were indebted to Matte Pierson who made a brave save at the feet of Paxman as the Ramsgate winger was through on goal. Another exciting game played before a good crowd as we continued our best start to a league campaign for many seasons. In attendance at the game was Premier League referee Mike Dean.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd : Matte Pierson, Eddie Dines, Bashiru Alimi, Lee Hall, Adriano Moraes, Quincy Rowe, Jordan Wilson, Ollie Bennett, Danny Bassett, Billy Dunn(Matt Price), Taurean Roberts(Claudiou Hoban). Unused subs Leon Lalor-Dell, Michael Dixon, Serg Zamara.

Guernsey came from two down to snatch an unlikely point both goals late in the game coming from free-kicks. Tooting dominated the first half with the visitors young debutant keeper Jordan Kelly making fine saves to foil Danny Bassett and Ollie Bennett. The Terrors went in front after 24 minutes when a cross-cum-shot from Taurean Roberts wide on the left took a deflection and evaded Kelly in the Lions goal. Roberts went close again when he hit the post eight minutes before the break.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The second half began as the first ended with United dictating the play and in the 62nd minute extended their lead when a cross from Claudio Hoban was superbly volleyed home by Billy Dunn. Five minutes later an identical move

saw Taurean Roberts force an excellent save by the Guernsey keeper. The visitors who had rarely threatened got back into the game after 74 minutes when Jack Domaille scored after a free-kick fell to him at the far post. Two minutes later Matt Price was unlucky when he had a header cleared of the line.

In the 90th minute Guernsey were awarded another free-kick and Ross Allen making his 200th appearance for the Lions saw his fierce effort beaten out by Matte Pierson to the waiting Jack Domaille who looped a header into the net.

Tooting nearly won it in the dying seconds when Jordan Wilson’s fierce shot took a deflection and hit the bar and was cleared.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd : Matte Pierson, Jordan Wilson, Bashiru Alimi, Eddie Dines, Antonio Simeone, Sol Patterson-Bohner, Claudio Hoban(Leon Lalor-Dell), Ollie Bennett, Danny Bassett, Billy Dunn(Matt Price), Taurean Roberts.

Tooting lost their first league match of the season despite dominating the majority of the game. The home side took only two minutes to open the scoring when Staff Palmer curled in a free-kick. The Terrors had a real chance in the 19th minute when Mike Dixon was through on goal but man of the match

Liam Allen made the first of many fine saves. Three minutes later Molesey extended their lead and it was that man Palmer again with another free-kick from the opposite side which Matte Pierson let slip through his hands. The last real action of the first half saw another brilliant save from Allen to deny Dixon

-------------------------------------------------------------------

The second half started with United on the front foot and Taurean Roberts broke free but Allen made a vital block. On the hour Taurean Roberts crossed to Billy Dunn but he put his close range header wide. In the 69th minute the Moles had a good chance to go three up when a corner found Joe Pratley-Jones unmarked at the far post from a corner but Antonio Simeone was on

hand to clear the goal bound effort off the line.

Fifteen minutes from time Mike Dixon had a good chance but was off target. In the 79th minute the Terrors finally pulled a goal back when Jordan Wilson made a surging run down the right and his precise cross was stabbed home by sub Matt Price. In the closing minutes Tooting battered the home goal but the young Moles keeper made save after save the best being from Danny Bassett and that was that as Tooting’s unbeaten league run to the season had ended only two games short of equalling the all time club record.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd : Matte Pierson, Jordan Wilson, Bashiru Alimi, Eddie Dines, Antonio Simeone, Sol Patterson-Bohner, Claudiou Hoban(Ashley Robinson), Ollie Bennett, Mike Dixon(Bassett), Billy Dunn(Matt Price), Taurean Roberts. Unused subs Lee Hall, Quincy Rowe.

Hythe took the points but if an early Ollie Bennett goal had not ruled out by a marginal offside decision things could have been different. Midway through the half the dangerous Alfie May had a couple of openings for the visitors but could not convert either. Three minutes before the break Matt Price had a chance for Tooting but fired over, as did former Terror Frankie Sawyer at the other end. Right on the stroke of half-time Town went in front when man of the match Alfie May scored from close range.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 64th minute Tooting went close to an equaliser when after a fine run by Jordan Wilson saw him put Claudiou Hoban through and the winger had a good effort cleared off the line by Craig Cloke. Eight minutes later Tooting lost the services of centre back Antonio Simeone who was carried off the pitch on a stretcher with a leg injury and looked in considerable pain. With Tooting pushing for an equaliser there were gaps at the back and in the 82th minute Kenny Pogue had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 but shot wide. However soon after Hythe did capitalise when Alfie May forced a good save from Matte Pierson but the ball ran loose to Hythe sub Alex Skinner to score. Tooting went close near the end when Lee Hall had a fierce shot well saved by Joe Mant.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd : Matte Pierson, Ashley Robinson, Bashiru Alimi, Eddie Dines, Antonio Simeone(Lee Hall), Sol Patterson-Bohner, Jordan Wilson, Ollie Bennett, Matt Price(Danny Bassett), Billy Dunn(Taurean Roberts), Claudiou

Honours were even in what was a game of two halves with the breezy conditions playing there part. Lewes had the first chance after three minutes when Charlie Coppola fired over when well placed. In the 36th minute Matte Pierson was called into action with a brilliant save to deny Duncan Culley after a good Lewes move. Two minutes later the Rooks debutant keeper Lucas

Covolon made an excellent stop from Ashley Robinson. Right on the stroke of half-time Steve Brinkhust had a good effort cleared off the line. Returning at full-back for the Terrors was Peter Wedgeworth who acquitted himself well with some timely tackles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

After the break Tooting came out of the blocks with Claudiou Hoban having a couple of long range strikes which whistled over. On the hour Billy Dunn rifled in a fierce drive which was well saved by the visitors keeper. Eight minutes from time Ollie Bennett found himself in the clear but shot straight at Lucas Covolon. Lewes replied with a volley from Lloyd Harrington which was safely gathered by Matte Pierson. In stoppage time a free flowing move involving recent signing Scott Day and Mike Dixon found Jordan Wilson through on goal but he shot agonising wide. That was the last notable action and it was a point

for each side.

Tooting & Mitcham Utd : Matte Pierson, Ashley Robinson, Peter Wedgeworth, Eddie Dines, Adriano Moreas, Sol Patterson-Bohner, Claudiou Hoban, Ollie Bennett, Billy Dunn(Scott Day), Danny Bassett(Mike Dixon), Taurean
